Kent's Corner

Continued…

…it was still so pertinent to her – the whole idea of every check being a contract.

Howard HigmanHoward Higman, at left, (BFA’37, MSocSci’42) (sociology professor and creator of the Conference on World Affairs) was another, along with Reuben Zubrow. And who could forget Sam Zakhem. Today, Dennis Van Gerven, Tom Zeiler, Kristi Anseth (PhDChemEngr’94). All of them make their mark on hundreds if not thousands of students.
Professor Bob Culp (MAero’63, PhD’66), although only working with budding engineers in the engineering school, is that kind of professor. I met him at our Surf Camp in Mexico. He was 68 at the time and proud to be the oldest surfer “wannabe” of the bunch. He still uses a picture from camp during his first day of class along with the following list of 100 things you’ve got to do before you graduate from Boulder. Prof. Culp Surfing

What would your list look like?

  1. Connie Hillyer says:

“Get up close to Ralphie; talk to his handlers.”

HIS handlers? People at other schools may think that Ralphie is a male, but CU grads should know better!

  2. Tatanka says:

Connie, excellent point! We’ll inform the proper folks. *blush* In the meantime, I’ve edited it. Thanks for spotting that!

  3. Kirk Relford says:

Learn to distinguish between the CU police, the Boulder Police, and the Boulder County Sheriff Department by either collecting their patches or by interviewing someone from each department.

Find out where the Catholic all girls high school used to be and reflect on what it was like to go there in the 1950s and 60s.

Sign a petition to restore the 3.2 beer laws. You can fight in a war, but not drink? You gotta be kidding.

  4. Susan says:

How about attending an inter/intramural or varsity sports event, or checking out the great programs offered by the student rec center. I didn’t realize half of them existed until after I graduated!

  5. Edith Fischer says:

Go to the Dark Horse and enjoy the memorabilia hanging of the ceiling and Happy Hour.

  6. glory says:

Learn about the murder in the tower of Mackey and be able to tell the story.

  7. kent zimmerman says:

    Great additions, Hi Edith!
101 – Go back to your old dorm room and wonder how you ever lived there, with a roommate no less

  8. Gail Vaseen-Hardesty says:

Not only learn about the murder in Macky, but visit the organ practice rooms in the tower(s) where it happened. I took a semester of organ lessons while a music student at CU and had to practice there. This was only about 3 years after the murder happened. Creepy place!

  9. Dick Field says:

    “Eat at the Sink.”

I am glad to see The Sink featured at #8 – but how times have changed with the gentrification of the place. It used to be “Share a pitcher of beer at The Sink while listening to “Love Theme from Phaedra” on the juke box, checking out the chicks, and waiting for word of a party elsewhere on The Hill”.
