Strides made to conserve energy
CU-Boulder has reduced total energy use by 23 percent and stabilized carbon emissions at 2005 levels even though the campus has grown by 14 percent. Read more.
NASA has given the go ahead to a CU-Boulder-led mission to Mars that will investigate how the planet lost much of its atmosphere eons ago. How cool is that? Read more.
Programs at CU-Boulder supporting students with learning disabilities, in music and in environmental studies received “special recognition” by the Fiske Guide to Colleges. Read more.

Last year the Alumni Association awarded 88 student scholarships totaling $125,000. One of the ways Coloradans can give to a worthy student is by purchasing Buff license plates.

Meet family and friends at the alumni pregame at Benson Field the next two Saturdays for our lively pregames starting two and one half hours before kick-off (TBA). The Buffs take on Baylor on the 16th (for Family Weekend) and Texas Tech the 23rd (Homecoming). There’s entertainment, Chip and plenty of giveaways.

In his latest Plati-‘Tudes blog, associate athletic director David Plati (Jour’82) chimes in on the infamous fifth down game at Missouri, which he witnessed in person, pumps up Ralphie as the nation’s No. 1 mascot and covers other topics.

Buy your 2010 CU football alumni single game tickets. For all home games, Alumni Association tickets are in section 215. For all away games, tickets are in the visitors section. Here’s a map of Folsom Field.
“A pencil is freedom”
Sarah Geier (Psych’07) is excited about volunteering with Pencils of Promise (PoP), which partners with local communities to build schools and increase educational opportunities in the developing world. In the photo, Liz Bogetveit (Psych’06), in the middle, is attending PoP’s 2010 “white party” fundraiser in New York City. Learn more.
Alumna worked for change
Nancy Dixon Davidson (PolSci’60) wrote in response to “A change is going to come” that appeared in the September Coloradan regarding the civil rights movement at CU, saying it “was a time of great ferment, and as evidence here’s a photo of me marching with other whites in protest against the Boulder Woolworth’s in 1960. Little did we know that this was just the beginning of a powerful movement.”
Documenting Mexican troubles
Morgan Smith (Law’66) is freelance writing and photographing in Juarez, Mexico, to document life there. He says, “On this trip I was with a group of Catholic volunteers who take food to needy people. In the photo, David, pictured with his wife, five children, sister and a friend, is dying of cancer.”
