From USA Today:

Dathan Ritzenhein is trying to turn the cruelest finish into an opportunity.

Ritzenhein, a two-time Olympic distance runner, painfully fell behind the lead trio near the end of the U.S. Olympic marathon trials Jan. 14 in Houston.

Despite a last surge, Ritz.enhein finished fourth behind Olympic qualifiers Meb Keflezighi, Ryan Hall and Abdi Abdirahman

Ritzenhein’s time — a personal best of 2 hours, 9 minutes, 55 seconds — was eight seconds behind Abdirahman’s.

Ritzenhein, 29, who lives and trains in Portland, Ore., was devastated at not qualifying for the London Games marathon but not defeated in his quest for a third Olympics.

He now is training to make the U.S. team in the 10,000 meters or 5,000 meters or both.
