Salary Negotiation Strategies for Women – Tuesday, April 7th, 6-7:30 p.m. (free)
Women make up more than half the labor force, are as qualified as men, and yet, earn roughly 80 cents to every dollar a man makes. Multiple studies have shown that by failing to negotiate salary and pursue promotions, it can cost women more than an estimated half a million dollars in earnings over the course of their career. Experts debate the reasons for these inequities. It is up to each woman to achieve pay equity on her own. No law or employer is going to do it for her. The reluctance of women to advocate for themselves or concerns about how they will be perceived by an employer is often the difference between climbing the corporate ladder and not climbing it at all.
If you are a female student or an alum looking for your first job or looking to move up in your career, this panel discussion is for you! Come hear from female panelists with extensive professional experience in HR, Talent Acquisition, and/or managers with hiring authority speak about strategies and techniques to successfully negotiate salary.
It is up to each woman to achieve pay equity on her own. Be empowered and learn to advocate for yourself.

Navigating your Career and Life Choices: A Mindfulness Approach – June 4 & 11, 6-9 p.m. ($15) Presented by Career Counselors – Lea Alvarado, Linda Faucheux, Aga Sypniewska, and Lindsey Farrant
“Before you tell your life what you intend to do with it, listen for what it intends to do with you. Before you tell your life what truths and values you have decided to live up to, let your life tell you what truths you embody, what values you represent.”
― Parker J. Palmer, Let Your Life Speak: Listening for the Voice of Vocation
We often get in our own way when making decisions concerning career and life direction. We over think things, worry too much, doubt ourselves, and struggle with ambivalence. Ironically, the effort we put into trying to figure it out, often blocks the true insights that could emerge. This workshop focuses on how to access a deeper knowing in terms of your next steps utilizing mindfulness, reflective exercises, journaling, and small group sharing. We will practice listening to ourselves more deeply, getting to what we really want, and letting go of what is blocking a more authentic connection to ourselves and our career choices. Join us in utilizing fun, simple, and creative activities to help broaden awareness about what is possible in your life and connect to the choices and decisions that will further your career and life direction.
