The world of work is constantly changing as are the needs and goals of today’s workforce. CU is committed to helping alumni manage their career transitions. Lea Alvarado and Jennifer Duncan are our two alumni career counselors and are available for appointment by phone, Skype, or in person. First two sessions are free and each additional session, up to six per year, is $30. Call 303-492-6541 to schedule an appointment.
Lea Alvarado develops career programs and special events and provides one-on-one career counseling to alumni, locally and across the country. She has more than 15 years of career development experience in corporate, nonprofit and university settings as a career counselor, executive recruiter and staffing manager. Lea has worked with adults in transition in both the aerospace and biotechnology industries and also has created programs and services specifically for alumni. She is a trained coach and has a master’s degree in counseling with a specialization in career development. She enjoys helping people develop strategies that will increase their job search success. She is especially passionate about helping individuals shift their perspective in a way that decreases their anxiety and improves their confidence and sense of hope with regard to their job search or career transition.
Jennifer Duncan has worked in career services for 22+ years. Before coming to CU-Boulder, she assisted alumni with their career needs at the Texas Exes Alumni Association (University of Texas at Austin) for 13+ years. She previously worked in career services at Southwestern University (TX) and Bowling Green State University (OH). Jennifer’s expertise is in career coaching, as well as creating and facilitating webinars related to job search and career transition. Jennifer holds an M.A. in Higher Education and Student Affairs with an emphasis in Guidance and Counseling from Bowling Green State University and a B.S. in Clothing and Textiles from Kansas State University. Although Jennifer has spent the majority of her time in university and alumni association career services, she has previous experience in corporate retail management and buying, university admissions/recruitment, and university student affairs, including residence life & Greek life. She has also taught undergraduate courses in career planning & development. Outside of her work, Jennifer enjoys rowing, browsing antique stores & flea markets, wine tasting, and traveling internationally.
